Waiting for Godwits is one of series of murder mysteries written for birders in which the vital clue that leads to the solving of the mystery is always to be found among the featured birds. Readers with the greatest knowledge of birds and birding will be most likely to spot the clues, but the clues are not so obscure as to be impossible for someone whose experience does not go much beyond the garden bird table. And there’s plenty for the non-birder as well. Written with Digby Maclaughlin’s typical light-hearted style and wit, Waiting for Godwits nevertheless has its share of dark suspense as the retired American detective, Patrick McCluskey, aided by his beautiful English partner, Judith, a famous and exceptionally talented illustrator of birds, set about the task of discovering who, among the inhabitants of Chesley-Next-The-Sea on England’s windswept North Norfolk coast, hated church warden Peter Pettypaw enough to kill him in cold blood.

If you only read one of the three books in this series, the stories are good and well-written. But if you read all 3 books back to back as I just did, you will notice that several chapters are copied/pasted in their entirety in each of the 3 books. Instead of building on the story, this author took the lazy way out and just copied the same information in each of the 3 books. That is a great disappointment to me.Product details
